Huge congratulations to Captain Nicole Shaw and her Brewer Shield team who defeated Bankstown in a thriller at Chatswood Oval on Sunday 24 February to win back-to-back Premierships.
On a rare sunny and perfect day for cricket, Bankstown won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 9-149 from their 40 overs. Our bowlers shared the honours with Steph Hickman, Nicole Shaw, Brittany Mitchell, Rachel Lodge and Suchira Chauhan all taking wickets. Mathilda Carmichael lead the way with 3-39 from 8 overs.
150 for a win was easily the highest score our girls have chased in two seasons of Brewer Shield. They got off to a slow but solid start and were well behind the run rate with 42 on the board in over 22. Mathilda Carmichael and Shannon Heath came to the wicket and set about lifting the run rate with glorious shots around the wicket in a match winning partnership of 72 scoring 52* and 41 respectively. Jo Lawson finished the job off with a quick fire 17* and the girls came home with just 8 balls to spare!
The match was one of the best ever seen in Brewer Shield and worthy of a Premiership decider.
Well done Coach David Lawson, Assistant Glenn Shaw and our girls for achieving back-to-back Premierships!
