2007/08 Cricket Season

Junior Team Registrations

Dear Junior Cricketer,

With the start of the cricket season only two months away, it is time for boys and girls to register their interest in joining one of our teams for the 2007/08 Season. This will be the Club’s 103rd Season, so come and be part of our long cricket tradition.

Registration will be handled by mail.  A Registration Form is attached.  We ask you to complete the Registration Form and return by mail by 17 August for U10s and older; and by 14 September for U9s. Registration by these dates helps us form teams early so players know they are set with the Club. If we have insufficient numbers to form a team, it gives players we cannot place in a team enough time to try other clubs. Also early Registration gives us time to order manufacture of new shirts and caps in time for the first game. So, PLEASE send your Registration Form early to:

The general aim of our Club is for all players to have the opportunity to participate, learn as much as possible about how to play the great game of cricket and, most importantly, to have fun. As well, our teams get coaching support from top players in the Club’s Senior Grade sides, Ed Howitt and Brendan MacDonald.  Ed is our Club Coach, and we are very grateful for his help and the support of the senior Club members. Ed will run small Junior Development Squads and provide individual coaching for those interested in taking their game to the next level.

We will be advertising in the North Shore Times for new players to help ensure that the Club fields competitive teams in all age groups.

Competition Details

1.   The season goes for two school terms. The competition starts this year on Saturday 15 September for 10’s - 16’s. The U9’s start after the school holidays on Saturday 13 October.  No games are played during the school holidays.  Games resume Term 1 of 2008.

2.   Depending on player availability, Gordon will look to field teams this season in the Under 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 16 competitions.

3.   U16s, U9s, U10s and U11s (and U12 if there is enough demand) play Saturday mornings. There are afternoon competitions in the U11 to U14 age groups.  Please ensure that you indicate on the registration form your availability for morning or afternoon cricket or both.

4.   In the Under 11 and Under 12 age groups, there may be two divisions (morning and afternoon).  Gordon will attempt to field teams in each Division to give the range of players the best experience possible.

5.   In Under 9 and Under 10 age groups, the competitions are not graded and, as in previous years, we will attempt to set up teams based on localities, friendships, school groups and other linkages. There is a space on the registration form to include the names of players with whom you might wish to play and every effort will be made to meet these requests.

 

Compulsory Cricket Uniform

It is compulsory for all players to wear the Gordon Club playing shirt with white shorts or long pants. A Club cap is also compulsory. The shirts and caps are the same as for last season. The Gordon HaveAGo shirt is the same and so is acceptable.

There will be only one order of new shirts ($35) and caps ($15) for the year. We will order shirts when registrations are completed.

 

Registration Fees

The registration fee for this year is $180 (including GST and shirt) which covers two school terms of cricket. Without a shirt, the fee is $145. The compulsory Club cap is $15. However, U9 players have the cost of a Cap included in their registration fee due to their shorter season. Two or more players in a family - $160 each with shirt or $125 without shirt, plus $15 per cap. All Registered Players are covered under Cricket NSW/Australia’s insurance policies. You may also purchase a Greg Chappell hat ($15) through the club.

Registrations must be returned by 17 August for U10s to U16s; registrations received after this date may not be successful once teams fill up.

 

Parent Participation

You will note that there is space on the registration form to nominate for coaching and related roles.  Participation of parents in these various roles is essential to run a viable Club.  It will, of course, not be possible to register a team unless the Coach and Team Manager positions are filled for each team. As well, each team helps with one of the Club wide activities, eg co-ordination of training times and grounds, teams presentation day trophies, Rep selection days, website manager etc. These tend to be “once-off” involving very little time.
