U/10 Red Annual Report

It was a good year for cricket development with Gordon U10 Red.  Although we did not win many matches, there was definite improvement in skills across the board and lots of enjoyment had by the children.

The team posted a lot of competitive scores and we won the local derby match against Gordon Blue.  Particularly pleasing to see was the general improvement in bowling and fielding, with special mention being made of James Ellis, Jack Bee, Joshua Watts and Jamieson Weiss.

In the bowling stakes, Daniel Valentine and Jay Shah spearheaded the attack in a fashion reminiscent of the Lillee-Thomson era, with Jay also putting some tantalising spin on the ball on occasions.  Daniel earned praise as our leading wicket-taker throughout the season.  Thomas Slack bowled with significant pace and accuracy and troubled batsmen in all games.  Lachlan Stewart, Jack Cramer and Tim Forti also generated pace and took wickets when bowling.  James Ellis and Matthew Kell displayed improved bowling throughout the course of the season.  Joshua Watts became a strike bowler in the Bowl Trophy Final.  Jamieson Weiss showed determination and fortitude.

In the batting department all the children contributed.  As the season progressed, the resilience of the batting increased and, even if at times the scoring rate was not as high as hoped, the team was seldom bowled out before the end of the allocated overs.  Jay Shah topped scored in terms of runs throughout the season and displayed some fine strokes.  Jack Bee showed continual improvement and played some nice strokes.  Ian Powell put in some determined digs and opposing teams found him difficult to dislodge.  Tim Forti, Lachlan Stewart, Thomas Slack and Daniel Valentine were also able to smash a few runs when the situation required.  Matthew Kell and Joshua Watts showed determination at the crease.  Jack Cramer contributed in all aspects, and was a dashing and accurate fieldsman.

We were also well served in the wicket-keeping stakes with Lachlan Stewart, Jack Cramer, and Tim Forti in particular displaying admirable glove work.

Special thanks should go to Nigel Stewart for coaching the team with skill and enthusiasm and Alex Slack for assisting with coaching.  Thanks also to Andrew Bee, David Watts, Jol Valentine and Nick Ellis who helped out with umpiring and scoring throughout the season, and to all the parents, including Rama, who assisted during the season in bringing fruit for the children at the innings break.
