Round 11 – one day game v St Ives Bichel

Gordon 5/100 v St Ives Bichel 10/99

The feature of the St Ives innings was the catching and ground fielding of the Gordon boys. During the year Bichel had compiled some good scores and the technique of their top order batsmen showed why. Importantly though from a Gordon perspective a number of difficult chances were taken which meant Bichel could not get any momentum. Overall 8 catches were taken;

  • Dan diving forward at short cover - excellent
  • Jono a diving caught & bowled which he juggled and held and a good one at cover
  • Paddy two neat snares behind the wicket
  • Mark A a running catch at fine leg - not easy
  • Michael J a well judged catch at deep fine leg – great hands
  • Marcus a super diving catch at mid wicket
  • PLUS the “weekly” run out this time by Dominic who kept his cool

This top level fielding supported a good all round bowling performance which saw Jono 2/5, Joel 2/15, Roman 2/9, Hugh (in fine form) 2/23 and Tom 1/8 share the wickets. At the same time the ground fielding was first class in particular Hugh who attacked the ball with great confidence – well done!So 100 needed to secure the win and the minor premiership. Michael J looked settled only to be undone by a good swinging delivery and when Mark A was out off a leading edge to leave us 2/22 Bichel were a chance. Enter Tom “Mr Reliable” Stobo (18) who joined forces with Dan (28) and quickly set about putting the game beyond doubt. A feature of this partnership was the powerful driving and pulling of both players as they quickly added 42 for the third wicket before they both fell to the Bichel leg spinner.

Hugh (8) maintained the aggressive approach and was very unlucky to be held on a scorcher at mid off. Joel (14 NOT OUT) and Roman (6 Not out) finished the game off quickly with a rapid 24 run partnership which saw the target reached with 16 overs remaining.

Congratulations boys, you are now the Minor Premiers. You should be pleased that you have gone through the home and away series without a defeat, something that is not easy to achieve and is a well earned reward for having played good cricket all season .

Good Points.

  • Fantastic catching
  • Aggressive fielding in particular by Hugh
  • Clear calling when running between wickets
  • Positive approach to the run chase by all the batsmen

Semi Finals
