"I went aerial"

They were Dylan Connell’s words as he reached the dressing room after a 16 run partnership with Adair Durie helped Gordon First grade finish off a successful weekend with a heart stopping win against Hawkesbury at Benson’s Lane. Dylan Connell and Adair Durie played out the last 5 overs and with the target down to 8, Dylan decided to go aerial and hit two fours down the field and into the sight screen.

(Team mates congratulate Dylan Connell and Adair Durie after their last wicket stand)

Hawkesbury had scored 9 for 171 off their 50 overs with Brendan McDonald continuing his fine form with 4 wickets within a very good all round display by the bowlers. Beau Casson collected 2 for 34 while Adair Durie and Ed Zelma picked up one wicket each.

While this might seem a score that should be easily achieved the combination of good bowling from Hawkesbury, a slow outfield and some wayward batting saw the first grade side crawl their way to 9 for 155 before Dylan’s good eye saw us home.

This win would be sweet for Dylan who has been in this position before but something always seemed to conspire against him to get the side home.

The best for Gordon in the batting was a polished 56 from Beau Casson who continues to show his capabilities as a batsman as well as an important 39 from Brendan McDonald to get us near the finish line.

The win puts first grade in 4th spot (equal but ahead on percentages) in the overall competition and 5th (by one point) in the Limited Over competition.

There is one round of the Limited over competition left and this is against Bankstown on January 20. The top 4 play semis the following weekend.
