Macquarie Uni not able to take the last step in 20/20 tournament
Four Gordon grade players join Macquarie team and Brad Rasool scores century off 61 balls during first round match.
(Blair Lindsay during the final at UNSW)
After four days of competition of the first round of matches and semi finals in the Australian Universities Twenty/20 Championships, the Macquarie University team went down in the final to Sydney University at Village Green at 9.30am on Friday 7th December.
The matches were hosted by University of NSW at their Village Green and David Phillips grounds.
In the final Sydney Uni batted first and scored a good 164 against some spirited bowling. After having scored 205 against Sydney Uni earlier in the week, this was definitely an achievable score. Unfortunately a couple of run outs saw the target slip away and we finished with 131.
In the end the team played some fantastic cricket over the 5 days and just ran out of steam on the last day. The Sydney University captain during his acceptance speech after the final said he felt the Macquarie team were the best team during the week, however some wickets at the wrong time put them out of the match. The Uni captain was very humble as of course he had an excellent team as well who played tight cricket in the match that mattered.
Congratulations to Gareth Lloyd, the Mac Uni manager who put the team together and managed and scored each day of the carnival. This is an event that is sure to continue next year.
