The first grudge match for the year against the old foe and reining 3rds 20Twenty Champs - St George Sutherland. After losing the toss - an increasing trend again in season 11/12, Gordon was sent into bat.
Leading from the front Sherwood no.1 (Emma) and Anns set out to a great start with no.1 smashing 31 -retired not out including 3 fours and 2 massive sixes. Quick fire 12's from both Hankers (2 boundaries) and Krist (2 boundaries) set Gordon up for their highest 20Twenty score to date. Sherwood no. 2 (Alyce) made 21 not out while Davo finished the innings in style with 9 runs, unlucky to be bowled going for a huge shot off the final ball.
With a competitive total of 94 posted Gordon took to the field. St George suffered at the hands of Kirst (3 overs, 1 maiden, 2/9) and Davo (3 overs, 3/16) who had them 3/11 and what looked like an imminent victory for the Reds. Big hitting power from the St George wicketkeeper and steady batting from their Captain swung the momentum of the game firmly in the St George direction.
With Coggs (3 overs 0/12) and Hankers (3 overs 0/15) slowing the flow of runs, Sherwood no.1 (3 overs 2/15) was the one who provided the much needed breakthrough and put the opposition on the back foot. Game hanging in the balance with just 3 overs left to bowl and St George needing just 6 runs, Liz bowled a near perfect over with only 1 run coming from it. Sherwood no.2 then came into the attack with just 2 runs coming off the penultimate over. Jane (aka Bobsy) had all the pressure on her shoulders with the final over. Needing just 3 runs to win, St George began playing tip and run. Three lucky singles was all it took for St George to notch another nail biting victory. Not a disappointing loss though, plenty of promising signs for the Reds who have a score to settle - Watch out Slayers!!!!!
