Second Grade Round One 2011/12

Cricket season has come around already! The rain held off and the new look 2nd grade was ready for a tough match against the experience of St-George Sutherland. Things started off promising when I won the toss – Gordon to field.

The Gordon attack was lead by two young up and comers, Felicity Trinh and Carly Ussher. Unfortunately the experience of St-George overcame the young girls enthusiasm and at 0-36 after 4 overs Allana Benson was bought into the attack. (After running late and little warm up) took a wicket 2nd ball to bowl a wicket maiden first up! This joy however was short lived as St-George put on a 89 run partnership before Emma Sherwood took a double in her 2nd over, which was well supported by Lauren Cambitzi who dried up the runs. Carly came back to get a late wicket in her last over and St-George finished on 4/148.

A difficult target although reachable unfortunately saw the team lose wickets in the 5th and then 7th over. A bit behind par the girls were 3/57 after 10 thanks to Emma Sherwood’s 30. Runs weren’t easy to come by after that with Melissa Fisher the only other batter to get into double figures with 12*. Gordon finished short 6/84.

Good effort all round with a new look team. Special mention to the young girls who have come up from brewers, and the new comers! We’ll get them next time!!!
