Second grade round 3 2011/12

The second round of T20 for Gordon brought us back home for the first time after the end of the last cricket season.

With a very sticky start to the morning and weather predicted to get warmer, Nicky won the toss and decided it would be a good idea for us to field while it was still “coolish” and put pressure on Bankstown early with the combination of bowlers she had a pick of.

Pressure alright! Opening with Lana 2/21(4) and Coley the combination of pace and tight bowling plus tidy fielding from the Mighty Reds put pressure on  Bankstown’s top order early and by the 5^th over they were 3/11.

Some very safe hands in the field with Flick and Carly taking a catch each and an all round team appeal for a feather to Bec set Gordon buzzing. A very  tidy 1/3(2) from Coley and frustration from the batters meant partnerships were short lived, with Alice picking up 2 wickets and contributions from, Lauren, Flick, and Carly adding to the wicket tally along the way.

Bankstown managed to keep the runs going and put away a few boundaries toward the last few overs to finish with 8/123.

Gemma was thrown into the opening line after taking a break from cricket for at least 6 years. A great display of batting and running between wickets saw Gemma and Bec tick the scoreboard over. Bec began to see the ball with ease hitting 4’s all over the park. Together they had 78 run partnership before Bec was run out for a well deserved 60. By this stage Gordon with 8 wickets still in hand was on target. Coley joined in with the runs and before Gemma too was run out. Nicky and Loz contributed to the runs, but unfortunately Gordon finished up with 102 off their twenty overs.

Definitely an all round effort by the team and a lot of positives to come out of the game. Also thanks to coach Mechelle for making her first appearance at 2nds with her super warm up and support  during the match.
