First Grade Round 3 2011/12

1st grade played a classic match last weekend against Universities with over 650 runs being scored in total by both teams.

Universities won the toss and chose to bat. The wicket was very hard and the outfield very fast. Strong batting from Alex Blackwell and Rachel Haynes meant that the Gordon players were under pressure both with their bowling and fielding. 9 bowlers in total toiled on the unresponsive wicket. Lisa Sthalekar bowled with great control and proved the hardest bowler to score from. By the end of the innings all bowlers had suffered, with the best figures going to Emma Doutreband with 2-62 from 10 overs. Universities finished their 50 overs at 4 for 349.

Hannah Trollip and Emma Thompson got the Gordon innings off to a quick start. The Universities bowlers also found the wicket unresponsive. Gordon were on the required run rate for most of the innings with tremendous efforts from Hannah (141) and Lisa (126) getting the team close to victory, but a number of run outs and late wickets, as the team tried hard to get the victory target, saw the innings finish at all out for 329.

Overall, a fantastic game of cricket.
