Poidevin Gray team wins Quarter final to earn home semi-final
Gordon won the toss and had no hesitation in sending the Hawks in on a deck that did have some dark spots from sweating. This was after a delayed start and due to covering the wrong deck. All our bowlers then performed brilliantly with excellent line and length on a deck that really did not cause much trouble to the bats.
Axel Cahlin at Owen Earle
They were rotated beautifully by Axel Cahlin, in stifling heat of around 36 degrees. Chris Searle (3-26) got the early break through and was quickly followed by Matt Keevers (2-21) and Vikrant Nehru (1-20). Matt Parkinson (1-17) in his last game for PG’s came on with the other spinners Ryan Meppem (1-36) and Matt Wright (2-19). They kept probing away and every bowler deserved their excellent bowling figures. This was one of the best and exceptional team bowling performance this season. Credit must also be given to an outstanding keeping performance by Oli Zannino, in really trying conditions. The overall fielding was also top class, with perhaps only Ryan Meppem suffering from two hard dropped chances.
Jamie Bekis, Matt Keevers and Ryan Meppem
Gordon started their batting in very confident fashion with an opening stand of 66 between Axel Cahlin (43) and Jamie Bekis(26). Axel’s knock was again sheer class and brilliance and he stood out as the supreme bat from both sides. Jamie gave his skipper tremendous support and will greatly benefit in building and innings with Axel. When they both went, our bats somewhat lost their way and were tied down by 3 spinners and the Hawks excellent opening bowler. To their credit they all stuck to the task and eventually Ryan and Nick got us home in the 2nd last over. We took a while however a win is a win and that now puts us into the semi-final against Sydney, in a home Chatswood game on Sunday week 25th Feb.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Matt Parkinson for his magnificent contribution to the 1st grade side, plus the PG’s and thus the Gordon Club. He leaves on Mon week to tour with the England sides to the West Indies.
Chris Searle, Matt Wright and Oli Zannino
This season he has taken 47 wickets at 22, which includes 30 first grade wickets and 17 PG’s wickets at the remarkable average of only 6.2 (this after missing the opening 2 games). He will have his last day next Sat at Chatswood and to you Parky, we thank you so much for your contribution both on and off the field. We also wish you all the best in your goal of achieving England honours and on what you have showed us here, you are a big chance. Of course great news about your engagement. Thank you Parky.
