Green Shield vs Mosman - Round 4 - 2016/17
On a somewhat overcast day the confident Stags headed to AB oval to take on the reigning premiers Mosman. Unfortunately, the Stags lost the toss (again) and were sent in to bowl on what looked a flat deck.
A promising start from Gordon saw Glenn Winsor rattling the stumps inside the first over of play.
Shivraj Rana is watched carefully but a Gordon supporter in the background
Mosman start to take control of their innings after this however were unable to apply too much pressure to the Gordon fielders as their scoring came at a fairly slow rate.
Some quality bowling from Ethan Garret and Jordy Hayes kept the runs down before both of them broke through to put the stags in a good position leading into the last 20 overs with Mosman 3-97 after 30.
Kyle Townsend gets into his delivery stride. We look forward to a grade debut!
Some big hitting from the opposition enabled them to build some solid partnerships towards the end of their innings and post a formidable total. Mosman ended their innings at 4-222 which we believed to be below par.
Glenn Winsor (10-4-1-25) and Jordy Hayes (10-1-1-16) were the pick of the bowlers.
Gordon set out their innings with a slow start and the loss of an early wicket didn’t help. However, the positive and aggressive mindset from Rowan Love and Nick Andreou set up a good partnership for us to build on.
Jordan Hayes in action and surrounded by his team mates after snagging a Whale
Gordon looked comfortable in their chase (aided by some extras from the opposition) until 2 quick wickets fell. The next man to the crease Glenn Winsor looked very comfortable facing the Mosman attack belting 66 off just 64 balls.
Winsor performed strongly with both bat and ball against the Whales
Along with Nick Andreou (83* off 120 balls) saw Gordon home with only 2 overs to spare.
This game was a testament to the way we have been playing recently as knocking off last year’s champions was no small feat.
A great effort from the boys and we look to continue the great start we’ve had in the 2016/17 season.
