Gordon coach and former player join the Chappell Foundation Sleepout

On Monday, August 5, The Chappell Foundation ( are hosting the annual Sports Star Sleepout at the Sydney Cricket Ground from 6pm to 7am to raise funds to assist NGOs and charities which are at the coalface in combating youth homelessness in Australia. This event has been scheduled at the start of ‘Homelessness Week 2019’

The Gordon District Cricket Club are proud to promote this night and the overall role of this great charity. We also pleased to announce that Gordon Coach Trevor Chappell and former player Jon Moss will be staying out for the evening and joining the rest of the participants. Any other former players are welcome to join in.

As Kerry O’Keefe has regularly attended our practice sessions to help our spinners we will claim skull as well as part of the Gordon group.

Of the 126,000 homeless people each night, 44,000 of them are under the age of 25. We want to help them turn their lives around.

TCF is probably the ‘purest’ charity going. They have no employees, no office, no overheads and no marketing/promotion expenses. They do it all ourselves and so everything we raise goes without seepage to the intended beneficiaries.

Jonathan Moss

Already, in 2 years they have donated about a million dollars to NGO’s such as BackTrack (Armidale), Stepping Stone (Sydney), Ecumenical Coffee Brigade (Brisbane) and WAYS (Sydney).

The Chappell Foundation has some prominent Patrons: Sir Peter Cosgrove, Dame Quentin Bryce, Hon John Howard, Hon. Kim Beazley, Pat Rafter, Lisa Wilkinson, Sir Ron Brierley, Basil Sellers, John Singleton, Dennis Lillee & Greg Chappell.

The Board led by Chairman Darshak Mehta OAM includes redoubtable Journalists Malcolm Knox, Tracey Holmes & Peter Lalor, as well as former Australian women’s cricket captain, Lisa Sthalekar - whose fund-raising idea this event is! Australian cricketer Moises Henriques also serves as a Director.

It would be fantastic if you can participate in the Sports Star Sleepout which will certainly focus attention on a national tragedy happening in front of our eyes and, hopefully, we can elicit solutions and action.

It would be great to have you participate – either by joining us and having your friends and others sponsor you, or by making a generous donation.
